Clemson accepted a bid to play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte on Dec. 31. The Tigers will face South Florida, whom the bowl selected from the Big East.
South Florida finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and a 3-4 mark in the conference. The Bulls were an interesting choice for this bowl game, which gets the second pick from the Big East teams outside of the conference champion (Connecticut).
West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Syracuse all had better conference records than South Florida, but the bowl opted to invite the Bulls.
Clemson was likely selected for this bowl because of how well its fan base travels, because there are other ACC teams that were likely more deserving than the 6-6 Tigers.
Each school will receive a $1.6 million payout.
